The goal of this seminar is to help English as a Second Language individuals feel more confident delivering messages through clear, precise and distinct pronunciation and articulation of English.
In this workshop, participants will learn (to):
- Basic human anatomy regarding sound production, articulation and how we communicate
- What is accent
- How to change habitual speaking patterns
- Identify the common areas of difficulty through the use of IPA – International Phonetic Alphabet
- Tailor these common areas of difficulty to the specific people in the room
- How to find the correct pronunciation for you to model
- Learn the correct physical mouth shape to pronounce challenging sounds in American Standard Speech
- Understand anatomy, mimicry, and fun mirroring exercises
- Apply newly learned IPA symbols to your written speech, practice new sound changes
- Improve acting listening to others
- Take home tips for many ways to improve active listening on your own
- Understand the importance of correct emphasis of words and syllables
- How to find the correct emphasis on your own in the future
- Understanding the role of the jaw, tongue and facial muscles when producing sound
- How to use our imagination to affect global change in our communication
- How to use acting exercises to change habitual speaking patterns
Participants will emerge with confidence and a clear set of exercises and principles to follow to improve clarity of speech and reduce accent
